The Christmas Promise

A captivating retelling of the Christmas story showing how God kept His promise to send a new King. Superb illustrations by Catalina Echeverri and faithful, Bible-centred story-telling by Alison Mitchell combine to make this a book that both parents and children will love. (From the Publisher’s website)

“A long, long time ago – so long that it’s hard to imagine – God promised a new King. He wasn’t any ordinary king, like the ones we see on tv or in books. He would be different. He would be a new King; a rescuing King; a forever King!”

My children love to be read to. They love the stories from the Bible most of all.  If you came to my house you would see quite a collection of Bible story books. And no story is more beloved in my house than the Christmas story. When I saw the trailer for this book, I knew my kids would love it. And I was right. Since receiving it a week ago, we have read it 6 times.

This book is true to the biblical account and told in a way that holds a child’s attention well by building anticipation. (It is even better if the reader can assume a British accent.) The story is illustrated beautifully and in a way that does not distract from the story being told. The themes of New King, Rescuing King, and Forever King are brilliantly presented.

This book will be a mainstay in my household and I will recommend it to my friends and family. Thank you Alison Mitchell, Catalina Echeverri, and The Good Book Company for this wonderful little book.
