Excerpt:

“Some squirrels like going on treasure hunts. Some like throwing acorns or playing chase. But Alby likes STORIES best of all!”

Review:

This review will be in the thoughts of my five year old son:

“I liked this book because I like squirrels. I like this book because Alby likes reading just like me. I like this book because stories take Alby on adventures just like they take me on adventures. But most of all I like this book because Alby likes bible stories just like me.”

As you can see, my son related well to this story. As a parent, I found this book wonderfully illustrated. I especially like the words of the bible stories seen in the background of the pages. My five year old and three year old ask for this book to be read to them every night. And I am happy to read it to them.  Even my ten year old listens in. Thank you Catalina Echeverri and The Good Book Company for my family’s new favorite story book.

The Christmas Promise

November 5, 2014 1 comment

Description:

A captivating retelling of the Christmas story showing how God kept His promise to send a new King. Superb illustrations by Catalina Echeverri and faithful, Bible-centred story-telling by Alison Mitchell combine to make this a book that both parents and children will love. (From the Publisher’s website)

Excerpt:

“A long, long time ago – so long that it’s hard to imagine – God promised a new King. He wasn’t any ordinary king, like the ones we see on tv or in books. He would be different. He would be a new King; a rescuing King; a forever King!”

Review:

My children love to be read to. They love the stories from the Bible most of all.  If you came to my house you would see quite a collection of Bible story books. And no story is more beloved in my house than the Christmas story. When I saw the trailer for this book, I knew my kids would love it. And I was right. Since receiving it a week ago, we have read it 6 times.

This book is true to the biblical account and told in a way that holds a child’s attention well by building anticipation. (It is even better if the reader can assume a British accent.) The story is illustrated beautifully and in a way that does not distract from the story being told. The themes of New King, Rescuing King, and Forever King are brilliantly presented.

This book will be a mainstay in my household and I will recommend it to my friends and family. Thank you Alison Mitchell, Catalina Echeverri, and The Good Book Company for this wonderful little book.
